The first device apparently will not offer a complete experience of "Ubuntu convergence", it will primarily be just a mobile phone. That's right Canonical is not giving up. They will scale back for now, accomplish what they can, and then continue until the project is more sustainable.
I have seen a lot of Ubuntu/Canonical bashing lately, but it's forward thinking like this that makes me a die hard Ubuntu fan.
